Vintage Wedding Ideas

My beautiful niece was married last week to her longtime beau. Their theme was "Love Is Timeless." They used all vintage items; clocks, cameras, typewriter, keys, and, a really cool Caddy drove them from the church. I knew the antique lovers would want to see some pics.

The Cadillac was a gorgeous blue!

A view inside the reception.

The groom's table had a vintage football theme.

I painted the vintage razorback on canvas.

The big cake looked too good to eat.

But of course, I had to try it!

My favorite was this table!

Old windows framing black and white photos of family members at their weddings.

Lots of vintage cameras.

The movie projector was the one we used as kids.

The typewriter was used for guests to type messages for the happy couple.

Each card was shaped like a bookmark.

Then a ribbon and vintage style key was attached and hung on a tree.

My grand loved adding her little message.

Flea Market Finds!

My flea market crazed husband missed a few weekend hunts, mostly due to the hot weather. He's a happy camper now with the super nice Fall temps! Had to show y'all a few finds for today.

Great old coffee tins in nice condition!

We have a large collection of milk bottles. Where to put them all?

Some of this will go in our Etsy shop!

I can see a root beer float in the tall soda glass.

As kids, we would go to the soda fountain at the drug store after Sunday church!

The yellow tinted glass may be Depression Glass.

This bottle is our favorite find!

If you are watching the Ken Burns film,"Prohibition," on PBS,

it tells about Coolidge and Near Beer!

If anyone knows about these three bottles, we'd love to have info on them!

One bottle has vinegar in it. Another has oil. If you can tell by the photo, there's an "indentation" in the middle. They are probably not old, maybe some sort of kitchen bottles?

Are ya' ready for Fall? Summer was soooo hot, even the birdies were panting at the birdbath! Now that the weather is turning cooler and Fall is in the air, I'm a happy camper!

I'm so excited to be a part of Terrye French's newest venture, "Painting With Friends." The photo above shows the items that I painted for the "Bakin' Thyme" epattern. Besides the color photos, painting instructions, and materials list, you get TWO pages of designs, including the 6 small drawings that I painted on the softballs and spoons, AND, a second page with the drawing on the cabinet door. Special Mom's Day

This is a special Mother's Day for me.

This year, May 9th, would have been my Mother's 88th Birthday. She passed away the week after 911. Of course we all miss her dearly, but, my dad, my 5 siblings and I, and all the rest of our clan, have fond memories of our growing up. It still amazes me that she could cook up a meal for 8 people, and do all the laundry and cleaning that goes along with a family that size! She made the BEST Karo fudge ever, even when we ate it with a spoon! LoL! Most of the time she kept a sense of humor about it all. In later years, at our big Holiday get-togethers, it was always chaotic and loud with all the kids, grandkids,and great grandkids...about 40 of us now, give or take a few. It would be a bit intimidating for the *newbies* in the family! :)

I am realizing that our Moms are never gone, but they live within our hearts forever.

Wren nest!

Spring is really here!!

Monday, we discovered a newly built birds nest right under our noses!

We saw this little wren flying out of it today!!
(This wren photo is from January snowstorm)
Well, it could be the mate of this wren. :)

It caught my eye as I was going in the house from the carport. It's on the top shelf of a big cabinet that I store my glass bottles in before they're painted. DH and I had NO idea what kind of nest it was 'til today. It's pretty big. I don't see how that little wren got some of the bigger sticks in there!

The front of the cabinet has glass doors.

When I took the photos, the nest was empty, of course.

We are hoping that there will be eggs soon!!

It's so exciting to be able to bird-watch so up close. I 'd love to get a pic of the babies when they hatch. Don't want to scare them, tho!

Will keep y'all posted of the progress of our new residents.

Let It Snow...Again!

Just doesn't seem like winter unless there's at least one really good snow event. It was coming down in buckets yesterday! Yeay!

Here's a few photos. The first one is a *cistern* that I painted a few years back. The snow was just starting to accumulate. It sits in my front yard year round under the ivy.

Here's our pine trees. There are cacti under them. The super cold temps from a couple weeks ago flattened them out! They always pop back in the spring, tho.

We made up some pine cones with PB and bird seed. This little wren loves it! The pic is through my window, so it's a bit hazy.

These are the metal bands from old wagon wheels. (I think) Yep, we have lotsa stuff like that around! LoL!

Ok, I had to get my hands in the snow at least a little! This is DH's truck window. It had a thick layer of ICE under the snow!

A White Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all!
We have our 1st White Christmas in over 25 years! The sun is shining, and it's in the 20s, so no melt off. I don't want it to melt anyway! :)
That does slow down our plans to go to the gathering at my dads's home. It's usually quite a large group! There are 6 of us kids and spouses, grandkids and their spouses, and great grandkids, too. We will all visit on Sunday instead.

I guess I will bundle up and take a few pics of the snow.
Maybe I'll post them later on.

Thought I'd post some before and after pics of the ornaments I've been painting.

These are unfinished wood turned ornies that I bought at Hobby Lobby last year.

Yes, it takes me that long to get things finished! LoL!

Y'all know how it is!

I bought about 15 of them. Have 4 done so far! Yikes, I'm slow!

I painted a Prim snow scene on each one. Then went all out with the Diamond Dust glitter! I love that stuff! So sparkley!

They're done in blues and teals.

I plan on listing these and more in my Etsy shop over the weekend.

Back to blogging and U2 concert!

Oh my gosh, is it really October? Ummm, wait, it's almost November!!

I hope that my blog slump is over. Stuff just happens, I guess.

I plan to post/paint/twitter, and whatever else, more often.

To start things off, here's some photos from the U2 concert in Norman, Oklahoma last Sunday. This GIANT "spaceship" was bigger than OU Stadium! It was amazing! Over to the left is the OU jumbo screen, which was tiny compared to the stage setup. When it got dark, the "Claw" came alive! :)

That honeycomb thingy in the middle would raise and lower to make the screen bigger.

Lots of colors! :)

Adam Clayton does what he does best!

A "blue" song...LoL!

It was great fun! The Blackeyed Peas were the opening act. I was surprised that I really liked their performance, too.

While in Oklahoma, we stopped at "Country Collections by Hart" shop in Moore! It's a painter/crafters' dream! I was in heaven! Will tell ya' more later!

Hello all! Happy Sunday!

I scanned a few images for you to use on blogs or for mixed media.

These are from a 1975 Imperial Sugar Cookbook, that was revised from a 1915 Cookbook! I love the cover especially.

There's some nice titles inside, too.

Take out the lettering and insert your own for blog buttons, etc.

I tried to fix them a bit with PSP, but I'm a novice when it comes to that program.

Just click on each image and it will bring up the larger size

to save to your computer.
I could see this as a background.
It's the inside cover.

Last, but not least, here's a great grocery ad from 1938!

I've found my newest passion!

A Wacom Pen Tablet! DD has had one for quite a while and let me borrow it.

It takes some getting used to.

Kind of like using a dry erase board, only you look at the screen while *sketching* on the tablet.

Here's what we came up with.

I drew the owl, and she did the color and animation.

I have yet to figure all that out!

I am SO excited to do some more drawings!

I'd like to try and make some freebies soon, so check back!

What a HOOT!

Owls seem to be all the rage right now. I've loved them for a long time.

I drew my first owl back in the early 70s. I'd just started work at the telephone company. They needed a *volunteer* to make a poster for the safety committee. So, *Be Safety Wise* became my theme. My boss liked it so much that she had a photo of me with my poster taken for the Bell Newsletter. So it was an owl that started my art career at MaBell.

This great Cast Iron Vintage Owl Bank was used to advertise Wards Riverside, a tire company. I may list him in my Etsy Vintage shop later.

I painted this owl with pen and ink on glass back in 83. It's done in reverse on the inside of the glass. The background is fabric. The pic is a little pink, but that's my old camera! This was from a class by Suzy Stosberg of Suzys Tole Shop. I sure miss that shop!

The CUTE Beatle at 67!

Maybe, *WOW* is a good way to express it!

Need I say more?

Sir Paul was THE best concert event that we've ever been to ever imho!

This is the 1 year anniversary of the BOK Center in Tulsa. It's a great venue...holds 18,500. Perfect size!

Paul was there to celebrate it, but more importantly it was a celebration of 45 years from this music legend!

We were 8 rows up right at the side of the stage.

Paul joked with the audience in his usual adorable "Beatle" style. I don't think he's changed much since those days. Except now, he has 3 hours worth of hits to sing. That didn't even begin cover all the list of great songs.

The name of his band now is The Firemen! They are awesome!

The piano was on our side, so his back was to us when he played.

We could still see well when he turned around, tho.
Of course, I was so dang excited to see him turn around....

Yes, it's McCartney!!
I was 12 when my Grandmother bought me my 1st 45 Beatle record!
I screamed like crazy during "A Hard Days Night."
I would wear my Beatle hat and shirt everywhere.
Boy, did I think I was Cool! ;]

I still have my Beatle doll of Paul.

Wouldn't sell it for anything!

Now he's a Fireman!

They were such a major part of my teens!!

Now, I will finally get to see Sir Paul sing all my favorites!

Flea Market Friday

Hello All!

Here's a few items that I'm listing on Etsy today and thru the weekend.

This teapot is by Arthur Wood. He produced pottery in England around the early 1900's. It's so pretty in person!

Gotta get the old glass doorknobs out! :) I don't know much about them except that I really like 'em! They look great as architectural accents.

This is a little tin cup with a circus theme. It has an elephant, a clown, and a horse and cart around the sides. I always wonder who may have used stuff like this and where they lived.

These glasses are pretty neat! I remember going to Hardees back in the 70s when they had the larger sizes with a hamburger. :) We collected them all. DH sold them years ago, and of course now, he wishes we had them back.

Daffy Duck and Yosemite Sam are the 8 oz. size
from 1976. The Grandbaby has a couple favorites that we kept just for her. Perfect for little kids to drink their milk! There's a character at the bottom of the glass when you've finished.

We are off to celebrate a Birthday with our now 25 year old.

Bargains Galore on 64!

If you love junkin', it's the place to be this week.

Bargains Galore on 64!

It's 160 miles of yard sales, antiques and collectibles, along highway 64, from Fort Smith to Beebe, Arkansas. Highway 64 parallels I-40 in Arkansas. People come from all over the country to search for hidden treasures, long forgotten from Grandmas attic. There's lots of plain ol' bargains to be had for everybody's taste.

The top 3 photos are from War Eagle, just to give you an idea of our wares. Everything from crocks, kitchenware, and tinware, to figurines and McCoy pottery.

I love the old straw hats and the green "hat lady!"

We leave the marbles at home! :)

This is the day before it started in 2007, setting up with our big tent. The area that we were in had about 50 vendors all in one place. That's the back of our booth to the right. There are individual booths all along the highway.

Here's another view of our spot.

Hubby is so dedicated to his passion for antiques...
in 06, he'd just gotten out of the hospital the week before, from having an angioplasty!
We made it through just fine, with lots of attention to staying cool, and not overdoing it.

We used to have 3 smaller tents. They were the easy, pop-up kind. Happy to be down to ONE now, but we still have to read the instructions each time! Lots of pipes and poles to put together!

This year we will be in a new spot, in front of my niece's home!
It will be so handy to go in and rest and cool off
if we need to.
Looks like the temps will be forgiving, too. Supposed to be low 90's and low humidity! Yeay! Much better than the 106 degrees from past years!

If you're near Arkansas this week, be sure and travel Highway 64! You don't want to miss it!

Lost Our Marbles!

For Flea Market Friday, I thought I'd show y'all DH's favorite collection of all!

All 10,000+ of them!

He started collecting marbles years ago. He found an old wooden game board with clay marbles displayed on it at a favorite antiques shop. He was hooked!

The clay ones go way back. Some of them are said to have been used by the early American Indians. Along with the clay marbles, there are agates, china, handpainted, swirls, benningtons, and lots of others. I like that orange and black marble below. Looks like Halloween colors!

The jars they are displayed in are neat, too. I love the vintage Tom's Peanut Jars, Stewarts, a Squirrel brand Peanut Jar, and lots of old Mason jars. There's about 25 jars in all.

Lots of them are arranged by colors.

This jar is kindof Christmasy!

We get lots of jokes at shows like, "Have you lost all your marbles?"

The answer is "Yes!" But at least, DH has a collection of them to fall back on!

Hope y'all are having a nice relaxing Sunday! I've been playing around with my DD's new camera, so I thought I'd share some more pics of old stuff.

This lil mad guy was my older brother's toy when he was a baby!

(My brother is 67 now!)

I thought it was sortof an odd looking toy for a child!

He's cute in spite of his tough looking exterior.

Reminds me of a kewpie doll.

The backside view is too funny!

This is a beautiful handpainted teacup.
It has no markings on the bottom.

I don't understand why the design seems unfinished on the back?
Anyone familiar with these?

Here's an old soda bottle. Love it! I wonder what it tasted like?

I need to get all these down for a good cleaning and sorting. We have way too many! I hope to have a few on Etsy soon.

His music speaks for itself. I've been a fan ever since I heard, "The World Ain't Slowin' Down." I was on my way to work ,a "few" years back, and the local DJ said, "It doesn't get any better than this!" He was certainly right.

My grandbaby and I love to listen to "The Dragonfly Races" cd as well. A real fun toe tapper! It's a must if you have little ones around. Well, it's fine without little ones around as well! :)

Flea Market Friday is back!

Oh my, I've missed more than a couple Flea market Fridays!

(almost missed this one! LoL!)

Here's some vintage bling that's oh so sparkley in person! I ran across a box full while packing up one of our curio cabinets. I don't have a clue when it comes to this stuff.

DH just sees an item that he likes and grabs it up if its a bargain.

The silver items above are my favorites. The one at the top left has a pin back and I think it's a "tussy mussy?" It holds some sort of small flowers or maybe lavender. At the bottom left, the silver container held maybe matches. It has what looks like a flint on the inside.
Here's some pinks and purples!

I like the reds and golds, too!
The little round key fob at the bottom right has a clip on the back, and it's a pretty pearl type inlay. My descriptions are probably way off! Please leave me a comment if you have any info on some of these items.

Dad's Interviews

Happy Father's Day to all the dads, stepdads, and grandpas out there!

This is a photo from the late 60s of 2 of my little brothers

holding a drawing of mine.

I saw this cartoon in the paper, so I sketched my version of it.

It's a comic of a teenage girl and her boyfriend,

very nervously, but politely, chatting with her dad.

Chatting may be an understatement! :-D

My Dad had to meet every boy that I wanted to go out with, before we went out.

Just getting boys to come by and talk to my Dad was a job in itself.

It was more like a job interview, with the usual, "What are your plans for the future?" and "Where do you see yourself in 10 years?" kind of chat.

I was horrified as each unsuspecting victim....er....prospective boyfriend, stopped by for their turn at the third degree.

Now that DH and I have 3 grown daughters, and have been through the *dating thing* with them, it all makes total sense!

Dad is now 93 and will do interviews for the grandkids AND great-grandkids potential victims...er... boyfriends!!

Thanks to my Dad for being a terrific interviewer!

P.S. That young man getting *interrogated* in the sketch is my hubby of 38 years.

(He didn't pass the interview at first!)

Saturday Pinks!

Good Saturday morning to everyone! I'm in a pink mood lately. I think my granddaughter has something to do with that for sure! Here she is helping me gather a vase full of hydrangeas from my yard. It was heavy, but she loves to help out.

I also took this photo of a baby preying mantis. He was fast, but I managed to get a shot that was almost in focus! LoL! He was SO little, barely an inch or so.

And I just listed this sweet pale Pink oval Pyrex dish in my Vintage shop on Etsy. The color is gorgeous! Click on the photo to see more.

Free Vintage Karo Syrup Images

Here's a couple images that y'all might like from an old Corn Products Cookbook.

This one is the from the first page of the Candy making section. It's my favorite because they are making fudge! My mom used to make fudge using the Karo Syrup recipe. The whole kitchen would smell so good while she was fixing it! We even loved it when it didn't turn out. We just used a spoon! :) I haven't had a lot of success with making it her way. I make the Kraft Marshmallow Fudge in the microwave. So easy, and it never fails! I am the appointed fudge candy maker in our family when we have get-togethers.

Woke up this morning to this little visitor! The dogs had been barking about 2 am this morning, but we just thought they needed to go out. Well, turns out they must've seen this baby possum getting IN!

I heard something fall off the shelf in the hall, turned around to look, and there was the baby possum trying to scramble over to the closet! He really was a cute little guy, only about 7-8 inches, not counting his tail. DH put him in a box and turned him loose out in the yard. Yikes! I hope he doesn't try to visit again! We think he may have been in the attic and who knows how he got in from there!

Here's a photo of 2 of the "barkers!" We are babysitting the grand dogs for our DD and SIL while they are on vacation. These 2 are pretty spoiled! Not by us of course!! The chocolate cocker spaniel is from when DD and her hubby ran a dog rescue. They have 4 spaniels.

Flea Market Friday is postponed for this week at least.

Just too many dogs, possums, and craziness around here.

I did get a new HP All-In-One yesterday. That's keeping me busy. I am scanning ALL of my dad's old family photos from way back in the 30's-40's, etc. It's fun. I love those vintage pics!Dad is 93! He wants to make cd's for all the kids to keep, before the photos disentegrate.

Flea Market Friday!

Happy Flea Market Friday!

The sun has finally decided to show up, after about 3 weeks of rain (almost 10"!) I was beginning to think an ark would be necessary. DH tried to mow the yard and had to get help when the mower got stuck in the mud!

On a positive note, it was great to be able to get out and take some photos. Hubby found this Biscuit Jar this morning, and had to bring it home. I grabbed it up to show for Flea Market Friday!

It's a gorgeous Limoges China Biscuit Jar.

I am amazed at the wonderful condition that it's in.

This will be on Etsy probably tonight. I will have a couple more goodies listed there as well.

I found this good link that gives info on collecting Limoges pieces.

More posting soon! I have the weekend off...except for the big "to do" list! LoL!

Good Morning All!

This is just a quick post for those of you that were following the Eagle Cam at the Sutton Center in Oklahoma. That baby is so BIG now!! A Happy Mothers Day to Momma Eagle ! She has weathered thunderstorms, hail, high winds, and even Poppa Eagle, and she still seems so calm through it all! :) You should take a look!!

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Here's some Flea Market Items for this week.

These will all be listed in my Etsy Shop asap.

I love the pretty floral design of this China plate by Lefton.

The stand comes with it.

This is a beautiful framed piece that is perfect to show you for Mother's Day!
The silouette is of a mother and child waving to the ships coming in to shore.

It's painted ON the glass.
I'm not sure the correct name for this type of piece.

The background is a print INside the frame, with the ships, cottage, etc.

So pretty in person!

Ok, this is not Mother's Day related, but DH and I just love crockery and bottles of all sorts.
This is a quart Whisky bottle from Scotland.

It dates from the 1800's

I just wonder where it was from, like in a pub or something,

and who was drinking from it at the time!

I'm always fascinated by the history of these great old treasures.

She's been in our collection for a number of years.

It looks as though she is traveling through space on a rocket?

I missed Flea Market Friday, so why not a Flea Market Saturday this weekend?
I'm posting a quick couple photos here because today I'm working on our new Etsy shop...

I just added these 2 items to the shop.
It's slow going, but there will be lots more items in the shop soon.

I am looking through boxes and crates, and trunks of collectibles to see what all we have.

There will be vintage photos, postcards, glass items, kitchen stuff, rusty stuff, and more!

Hubby is having a difficult time parting with these *treasures.*

I am very excited about it all! I want some space! LoL!

My latest motto is "live simply," so some of this has got to go on Etsy!

This is a Pie Bird or Pie Funnel. I had no clue what it was, hubby had to explain! LoL!

Happy Flea Market Friday!

Here are a couple of sweet vintage kitchen towels. They measure about 17" by 39" Probably cotton fabric, one cloth is a little more faded than the other. I love the red designs of ladies washing and drying the dishes. The background is white. These are very lightweight and the dish motif is on one side only.

There is ,of course, some wear, but not much. There's a small stain on one and a little worn spot on the other. (See photos)

I have not used them or washed them since DH found them at the Flea market.

I can pack these up in a bubble mailer and send them 1st class to save money,if you'd like. They'd be a really cute addition to your kitchen for 5 dollars plus shipping. (They weigh about 6-7 oz.)

Easter Greetings!

Hope everyone is having a nice Easter! Since today was a very rainy, windy, & stormy day, we had all the Easter festivities yesterday. A nice time was had by all with a picnic lunch, egg hunt for the grandbaby, and in general relaxing amidst the blooming dogwoods, and lilacs, near the pond. The fresh homemade banana pudding was the yummiest of all the desserts! :)

Here's a little guy that we found flitting among the lilacs! Somebody tell me what is it?? He was smaller than a hummer, maybe 1/2 the size, but looked like some sort of moth? I've seen the big hummer-type moths before, but not like this one. He has 2 bands of yellow across the bottom. It was fun to see him close up. Please leave a comment if you know what he is. :)

My oldest "baby!"

This year, my oldest's 32nd Birthday fell on Easter! Yep, that's her in the photo at about age 3! She was a little tomboy and loved to play in the dirt! We didn't get to see her due to the bad weather, but plan a trip next weekend to celebrate!

Flea Market Friday II

Welcome to Flea Market Friday!

Here's an adorable toy sewing machine!

Remember when things were made of sturdy metal?

This little machine really works! It takes 2 "D" batteries, which are included. It has an on and off switch. I didn't actually sew with it, but the little light turned on and it seemed to run well.

It measures 6 1/2" across by about 5 1/2" high.

There's a spot of rust on the battery cover.

The words, "2 D Cell Cragstan Batteries" and "Japan" are on the battery door. Also the word "Crystal" is on the bottom.

This is another vintage sewing treasure that would be great displayed in your sewing or craft room. And small sewing projects would be a breeze!
$40 plus shipping will send it on it's way. I use PayPal.

If you were around in the early 70s, you may remember the Pink Panther and Inspector Clouseau cartoons. The "followers" widget made me think of the Inspector! LoL! I loved to draw that bumbling, and funny guy!! I did lots of posters with him as the main character. I have photos somewhere at my dad's of the drawings. He used to take pics of my art projects when I was a kid. Thank goodness for dads that save stuff! :)

Happy Spring Friday, All!

I can't remember who started "Flea Market Friday." (Somebody please tell me)This is my first time to put an item on here to sell. I decided this great find needs a good home. So, here ya go!

A Vintage Cloth Mannequin Head!

She's in pretty good shape for her age, no rips or tears. I'm assuming the cloth is a muslin or canvas type fabric. She won't need to be primmed up!

The base has a plastic rim around it in good shape. I believe there was a base it sat on at some point. The stamp on it at the bottom says 28 then 20 below that?

This is sitting on my sundial outside to get a good photo, so the dial is not included. LoL! This would be really nice tucked in with your antique sewing items. I can see her sporting a nice vintage chapeau and all fixed up for springtime!

Got Hummers?

Well, no, I haven't seen a hummingbird yet. But, by now one usually has dropped by to see how many feeders we have out. We are late this season!! They will be up and ready for the scouts by tomorrow!

Meanwhile these are photos from the Butterfly Festival at Mount Magazine Lodge in Arkansas taken in 07.

This is the gorgeous view from the lodge! It was overcast, but still wonderful!
